Something pretty to look at

A diagram showing how food moves from truck, through the Ontario Food Terminal, and out to the city.  One of many being produced for my masters thesis.

You know its backwards when...

I've been searching for some stats on market shares for grocery chains in Ontario, and though I haven't found anything on it yet I did stumble across an interesting article on the CBC website.

This article explains some of the challenges that local food faces when it comes to being stocked in area grocery stores.  It is absurd to me that a store manager/franchisee cannot choose to stock local foods because of corporate policy.  And I understand that part of the reason large corporations put these policies into place is to cover their own a$$ if someone gets sick from tainted meat or bad vegetables, but it makes me upset.  No... it makes me want to do something about it.

My opinion is that locally sourced foods are actually more safe because they are only being exposed to a specific market, not spread out all over the province (or the country!).

Maybe I'm crazy.  Maybe I've read too much.  Maybe I just need to graduate.
